CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – The Virginia Department of Transportation’s crews remain in 24-hour operations as they continue work on secondary roads, subdivisions and neighborhoods across the Culpeper District, the department wrote in a release Wednesday morning.
VDOT added that while road conditions have improved, temperatures have remain below freezing, and as such motorists should be cautious of icy conditions and stay off the roads if travel is unnecessary. Crews are now adding abrasives, such as sand, to improve traction on the roads while the freezing temperatures persist, and are also making repeated passes with heavy equipment to break up the ice.
VDOT is also advising residents to not to push snow into the roadway when clearing out their driveways, and instead push it to the right side of their driveway to reduce the risk of plows pushing the snow back in.
