CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLERIGHTNOW) – Whether you’re looking to take in cinematic short films, indie-folk brilliance, or a string-backed Coldplay tribute, there’s plenty to explore across the region. Each week, Anand Harsh of 106.1 The Corner will direct your attention to the music and arts events happening in Charlottesville and surrounding areas that you absolutely can’t miss. These are, at the very minimum, shows you should hit if you’re in the neighborhood—all the way up to cancel-your-plans, call the sitter, and buy your tickets right now.

CALL THE SITTER

  • June 24: Destructo Disk, Babe Haven, Slow Funeral @ The Southern Café & Music Hall
I have a personal endorsement for Destructo Disk, having shared the stage with them before. This entire bill is insane, though, covering post-punk, pop-punk, post-hardcore, industrial, and more. Fans of heavier music need to be at this one.

GET YOUR TICKETS

  • June 25: Sunny War @ Front Porch
This is going to be an incredibly intimate show with this crustpunk turned elder stateswoman in the singer-songwriter community. There couldn’t be a better way to experience her very vulnerable brand of music.

CHECK IT OUT

  • June 27: Spafford @ Jefferson Theater
If you’re a fan of Phishy jams, you already know about Spafford. This hard-touring act is bringing is exploratory sound back to Charlottesville and they always deliver.
