CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – The Virginia Department of Transportation, in partnership with Orange County, is seeking public input on potential safety and traffic flow improvements along a 6.8-mile segment of U.S. 522, also known as Zachary Taylor Highway, between the Town of Unionville and the Culpeper County line.

This Strategically Targeted Affordable Roadway Solutions (STARS) study will assess operational and safety conditions along this corridor, with particular focus on two key intersections: Everona Road and Pine Stake Road; and Raccoon Ford Road and River Road.

The study will evaluate potential measures such as turn lane additions, access management strategies, pedestrian accommodations, and other operational improvements to enhance safety and reduce congestion.

An online survey will be available through September 16 for the public to review and share feedback. The survey will be linked on the project page on VDOT’s website

Questions about the study should be directed to Justin Cooner, VDOT senior planning specialist, (540) 829-7498, justin.cooner@vdot.virginia.gov.
