TomSox Triumph in Valley League Championship

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW): The Charlottesville TomSox have won their fourth Valley League Championship in their nine-year franchise history.   After a walk off victory courtesy of a Sam Mummau homerun on Monday evening, the situation was a little more up in the air for the Sox after blowing a 7-0 lead to lose 21-8 in Purcellville against the Cannons on Wednesday evening.

The two teams returned to Charlottesville High School yesterday evening, on a scorching hot day, to settle the score in the deciding game three.  The cannons took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the 1st.  They got two more in the fourth to bring the score to 4-0.

However, buoyed by a “blue-out” crowd, the TomSox kept fighting.  As the middle innings wore on, Purcellville’s arms gradually lost pitching control.  They surrendered 6 runs in the 5th inning, largely thanks to well-worked walks from the TomSox hitters, and never regained the lead.

Closer Daniel Powell took the mound in the 9th and muzzled the Cannons for good to seal a 9-5 victory for the home team.

And with that, Wilie T. Barnett Field erupted in ecstasy.
