CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Investigators don’t yet know the cause of a fire that gutted a Lake Monticello home near the golf course Thursday night.

Firefighters from four counties, including Fluvanna, responded to 7 Ponderosa Lane for a fire in a two-story home.

Neighbors posted on social media the home was fully engulfed in flames by the time the first crews arrived around 7:30 p.m.

According to the Kents Store Volunteer Fire Company, they responded along with crews from Lake Monticello, Palmyra, Fork Union, Scottsville, East Rivanna, Louisa, and Goochland.

According to one eyewitness, it took firefighters about an hour to get the fire under control in the house, which sits on a wooded lot where the fire could have easily ignited its surroundings.

A Kents Store company social media post said there was a mayday call by a firefighter, but “all personnel were later evacuated from the structure, including the firefighter who called mayday and no firefighters were injured”.

There’s no information about who lived in the home or whether or not they were there.

Some firefighters stayed at the scene through the night monitoring any hot spots that might have flared.
