CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – The University of Virginia has named alum and chair of radiology and medical imaging, Dr. Colin Derdeyn, as its interim Dean of the School of Medicine.

A UVA medical school release says Dr. Derdeyn accepted the role following the resignation of Dr. Melina Kibbe, who will step down September 3 to become President of UT Health Houston, in Texas.

Dr. Derdeyn joined UVA Radiology as department chair in 2024; before then, he had served as Department of Radiology chair at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinic beginning in 2015.

He has undergrad and medical school degrees both from UVA, and Professor of Radiology and Medical Imaging Dr. Cree Gaskin will serve as interim chair for UVA Radiology.
