CPD adds drug charges to Saturday DUI arrest

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – A Saturday morning arrest for driving under the influence has led Charlottesville Police to charge Marcel Jones with additional drug related charges, CPD announced Friday.

Jones has been charged with two counts of possession with intent to distribute Schedule II controled substances, one count of of possession with intent to distribute marijuana and one count of possession of a firearm in connection with a Schedule II controlled substance.

CPD responded to a call reporting a possibly intoxicated driver near the intersection of Greenbrier Drive and Tarleton Drive, at about 6:23 a.m. on Saturday. They found him apparently passed out drunk, in possession of alcohol, two firearms, multiple bags of pills, suspected cocaine, a large quantity of marijuana, drug paraphernalia (including scales) and a significant amount of cash, according to the release.

“Upon arrival, officers found an unresponsive male in the vehicle, later identified as Marcel Jones,” CPD stated in its release. “A firearm was located inside the vehicle at that time. Mr. Jones was safely removed from the vehicle and determined to be intoxicated. He was arrested on charges of driving under the influence.”
