Charlottesville Local Deals: Where did Bojangles get its name?

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Anyone with a love for Cajun-spiced fried chicken and scratch-made biscuits knows the name Bojangles.

Since 1977, Bojangles has been serving up Southern-style fast food, growing from a restaurant in Charlotte to a chain with close to 1,000 locations, many in the North Carolina and Virginia areas.

But where did that name come from?

According to the company, its founders, Jack Fulk and Richard Thomas, came up with the moniker for Bojangle’s Fried Chicken because Fulk heard the 1970-song “Mr. Bojangles” by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band.

The song has nothing to do with chicken, but Fulk liked the sound of the name.

Customers like Bojangles’ all-day breakfast, lunch and dinner offerings, fixins’ and family meals.
