No sign of shooting after initial report at 64 east MM 105 rest area

AFTON, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – UPDATE 8:20AM: This release from State Police: At 6:46 a.m. Wednesday (May 15), Albemarle County Police and Virginia State Police responded to an emergency call about shots being fired at the eastbound I-64 Rest Area in Albemarle County. Law enforcement have cleared the facility and found no evidence of a shooting having taken place. The Rest Area will be re-opening shortly.

UPDATE 7:44AM: State Police are speaking with an individual who might have been involved.

A first-arriving police officer has found no “signs of distress”, but expect heavy police, fire, and rescue at the I-64 eastbound MM 105 rest area with word just before 6:50am of an “active shooter” in camouflage shooting at the building. The report from the scene seems like no one’s hit, and police are trying to actually determine if the report is factual.

The rest area entrance is being blocked off, and officers at the scene are trying to determine if perhaps an altercation led to some gunfire.
