CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – Police are looking for a hit-and-run driver who left a pedestrian with life-threatening injuries after striking the person on the shoulder of Monacan Trail Road just south of I-64 Sunday evening.

Albemarle County Police and Fire units responded to reports of a pedestrian on the shoulder of the 900 block of the roadway at approximately 5:30 p.m. Sunday. They found a victim with injuries consistent with being struck by a vehicle.

The injured pedestrian was taken to UVA hospital and is in critical condition.

Police don’t have a description of the driver or the vehicle involved, but believe it is likely to have sustained damage to its front end.

“Officers believe the victim was walking southbound along Monacan Trail Road, approximately half a mile from the interstate, before being struck,” according to a release from ACPD. “The driver then fled the scene.”

The incident is under investigation and police ask anyone with information, including dash cam footage, to contact them at 434-296-5807.
