80-year-old with dementia found dead after week-long search

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CVILLE RIGHT NOW) – An Albemarle County man with dementia who had been missing since Aug. 17 was found deceased, ACPD announced Saturday.

80-year-old Lawrence G. Thomas went to his mailbox on the 7000 block of Secretary Sands Road, sometime between 5 and 6 p.m. He was found deceased Saturday, after a week long search by the Albemarle County police and other agencies.

“ACPD extends its condolences to the Thomas family and would like to thank the Albemarle County Sheriff’s Office, Virginia State Police, and Virginia Department of Emergency Management for their assistance in the search efforts,” a statement from the department said.
