Jan 25, 2023, Announcement

I want to start off by thanking the citizens of Orange County for their overwhelming support over my career.

I have had the incredible opportunity to work for the citizens of Orange County for over 35 years and serve as your Sheriff for over 15 years. Over these last 35 years, I could not have asked for a better community to be a part of and serve. I am proud of each and every one of my employees and the relationship we have fostered with the community.

While serving as your Sheriff, Orange County has maintained the lowest crime rate of all surrounding counties 14 out of the last 15 years. We have been able to expand our office personnel to keep up with the growing population and demands of the county and its citizens. This includes prioritizing school safety and delegating a School Resource Officer to every Orange County Public School. With growing demands came the implementation of a body worn camera program along with new and improved equipment for our deputies to better respond to the needs of the citizens. In 2007, We created the Orange County Citizens Police Academy which has taught over 400 Orange County citizens basic law enforcement functions as well as knowledge in the office’s daily operations. We have implemented a new records management system and an improved radio system for both our deputies and communications personnel. I played a role in the construction of a new and improved public safety building to better serve our communications officers and first responders. I have worked tirelessly with the Orange County Board of Supervisors for pay raises for all our deputies so we may compete with surrounding counties.

I hope that I have served you well.

Effective December 31, 2023, I will be retiring as your Sheriff. It has been a true honor to have served this community.

Thank you again for your continued support and may God bless you.

Sheriff Mark A. Amos
