A Dallas auction house says a lock of hair from Thomas Jefferson was sold Saturday for nearly $6900. The anonymous buyer gets 14 strands of hair that got snipped by University of Virginia professor Robley Dunglison when Jefferson died at Monticello on July 4th, 1826. Dunglison was Jefferson’s personal physician. The photo of a portrait showing Jefferson’s likeness (pictured) was provided by UVA.

The strands of hair were sold by collector William F. Northrop, who acquired them more than 30 years ago.
