Cavalier Women’s Basketball produced its finest performance on the year in an 86-72 triumph over No. 6 Maryland Thursday evening. Virginia was led by 24 points from Sr. Kelsey Wolf, while Ataira Franklin and Faith Randolph each added 19. The win for the Cavaliers snapped a five game losing streak to the Terrapins.

After trailing by two at halftime, Virginia opened the 2nd half on a 9-0 run to take control behind Kelsey Wolf’s long range shooting. The Cavaliers were also sparked by Lexi Gerson’s all-around play including a spectacular steal and circus-shot floater for a three point play during the run. Down the stretch Virginia protected the lead at the foul line going 20-22 from the stripe for the game.

With the win the Cavaliers hand Maryland just their second loss of the season, the only other coming against No. 1 Uconn. Next up for Virginia is a road meeting with Syracuse on Sunday. Tip-off is underway at 2 p.m.
