Sullivan, Local Lawmakers Look Ahead To 2014

President Teresa Sullivan and area lawmakers have discussed what might happen during the 2014 General Assembly. Outgoing Governor Bob McDonnell’s budget recommendations include an additional $38 million for mental health services. Albemarle Delegate Rob Bell says we have learned the consequences of a personal mental health crisis in April 2007, thanks to a deranged student-gunman who killed 32 people at Virginia Tech. It’s a front burner item again following a violent attack a month ago that led to injuries for State Senate Creigh Deeds. The delegates and state senators also heard from Erica Viccellio of the Charlottesville Free Clinic. She says a possible expansion of the Medicaid rolls won’t have a big impact on many o her cleints. The General Assembly will convene January 8th.
