Some CAT Riders View Looming Route Changes As Unfair

Some local bus riders say getting to work will be a lot tougher by this time next week. One frequent rider on Route 10, which connects the downtown area with Pantops and the new Martha Jefferson Hospital, is upset that night service will end after the Friday night bus runs. Woolen Mills resident Mattie Tompkins is upset that Charlottesville Area Tranist is eliminating bus stops in her part of town. Thompkins is also questioning why the Willoughby Shopping Center will be a connection point for several routes. That area off Fifth Street Extended includes a Food Lion, a CVS drug store, and several fast food restaurants. Opponents of the bus route changes are planning to meet at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the Downtown Transit Center on East Water Street. CAT will begin its new routes Saturday morning.
