The local Sierra Club is ratcheting up the pressure to eliminate traditional pesticides on school campuses across the city. Retired educator John Cruickshank (pictured) has told the Charlottesville School Board he has more than 700 names on a petition. Sierra Club members also made a similar presentation during a City Council meeting. They have also focused on pesticide use in the city’s park system. The school board has asked senior staff members to investigate the issue and report back later this year.
