Retail activity is mostly up in our area. The latest figures from the Charlottesville Regional Chamber of Commerce show first half sales are higher in Charlottesville, Albemarle, Louisa and Waynesboro. The numbers came in lower in Greene and Augusta. Retail sales increased by almost 9% in Charlottesville and Albemarle combined when compared to the first six months of last year. The figures were over 8% higher in Louisa and up almost 2% in Waynesboro. They were down about 5% in Greene and 4% in Augusta. The Chamber says more than 22% of all private sector jobs are in trade, transportation and utilities with most of those jobs in retail.
