A former newspaper publisher and government official will be the next Virginia Secretary of Commerce and Trade. Governor-elect Terry McAuliffe has appointed Maurice Jones (pictured) to the position. Jones is the former President of the Pilot Media Group and currently serves as Deputy Secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Pilot Media is the largest print and digital organization in Hampton Roads. He also served as Governor Mark Warner’s Deputy Chief of Staff. Boston backed out of its effort to host the 2024 Olympics, hours after the mayor said he would not "commit" to a deal if it meant taxpayers would foot the bill for hosting such a large-scale event.
