Howell Says Veto Of Budget Language Was Unconstitutional

House Speaker Bill Howell and his fellow Republicans have created a new roadblock for Governor McAuliffe. Howell (pictured) decided Monday night he would not let fellow delegates consider the Governor’s recent veto of budget language that deals with Medicaid funding. He told the House McAuliffe’s veto was out of order. The Governor declared Monday the GOP is using procedural gimmicks to prevent Virginians from getting health care. McAuliffe got a lot of vocal backup from the Democratic minority in the House, including Delegate David Toscano (D-Charlottesville). The House did sustain five of the Governor’s vetoes. Most delegates voted to override McAuliffe’s veto of a bill that pays for an advisory council on ethics, but the Senate sided with the Governor.
