Many local residents gathered Monday to honor friends and relatives who lost their lives in foreign wars. The main speaker was Colonel Joel Jenkins, who spent several decades as a chaplain in places such as the Pentagon and the Army’s Fort Bragg in North Carolina. Jenkins was the main speaker for the Memorial Day observance at the main County Office Building. That event included many wreaths (pictured) from local organizations. A Veterans of Foreign Wars chapter in Albemarle County held a similar event in Earlysville.
