Area residents paused Sunday to remember local Medal of Honor winner Frank Dabney Peregoy, who died in combat during World War Two. Peregoy was born April 10th, 1916 and was 28 when he died.

County Supervisor Ann Mallek (pictured) notes Peregoy was a member of our region’s Monticello Guard, which participated in D-Day. Local historian Rick Britton notes Peregoy’s grave marker in Normandy has his name misspelled. That same misspelling appears on a state historical marker near the intersection of Emmet Street and University Avenue.

Mallek and Britton have launched a campaign to correct those errors.
